How can this be yours? You receive it.
Near the beginning of John’s account of Jesus life he says:
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)
Faith is receiving the gift none of us deserve or can earn.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2.8-9)
This new life is a free gift that comes from God’s love.
A few sentences earlier, it says,
“God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4–5).
That means that even your faith is a gift of God right now in this moment.
If you are reaching out to take Christ, if you are ready to have him as your Savior and Lord then this is the clear indication that God has made you alive. He is enabling you to see what you could not see. He is giving you life. Till He does this, we are spiritually dead. It is as He makes us alive spiritually that we can see our need for Him.
This is what we call being “born again”. This is the new birth. Trust Him, speak to Him, tell Him all that you are thinking. Declare your faith to Him, welcome Him as your friend.
