All of us have failed to live for the glory of God.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

We have loved, honored, promoted and been devoted to things in He made, far more than we have loved and honored Him.

We have disobeyed His commands. There are things we knew He expected us to do and we refused to do them. There are things we knew we should not do, and we have done them. We have dishonored God. We have treated Him as though He was worthless. That is what sin is.

In this  we have all chosen the way of death. Though we were originally created to know and worship God, we have been seperated from Him by our sin. We are spiritually dead. This makes us dead to enjoying God’s abundant life now. Unless something changes, our physical death will become eternal darkness and misery away from His presence. Hell.

Maybe the clearest and most direct statement about the issue is this:

The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

If we get what we have earned, our sin earns the wage of death.

Sin isn’t just the things we do; it’s the way we are.

We are “by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.” (Ephesians 2.:3)

No one escapes this condition

No one escapes the penalty of death and judgment and hell by anything they can do.

Our life now and our eternal destiny comes down to:

  • Will we receive the gift of Jesus?
  • Will we receive eternal life or not?
  • The choice is binary. Yes or No.

Jesus said,

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”  John 3:36

Without salvation we’re all sinful by nature, and we’re all under God’s wrath.

So far this sounds like anything but good news. But knowing the truth about our condition is essential to appreciating the Good News that is found in Jesus Christ.
